"The 2005 Hug Bassetti Vineyard 'Rena Block' Syrah ($45) is an absolute stunner...The wine is quite dark, concentrated and still fairly tight, with ripe blackberry, some meaty notes and accents of smoke and white pepper."

"The 2000 Bassetti Syrah was very impressive-smoky, bacon/leathery notes throughout, and a sweet, massive midplate..."

2002 Review
"Syrah Bassetti Vineyard, San Luis Obispo
Last year we could only offer a mere 25 cases of Syrah from this exceptional vineyard, and based upon the futures' tasting, we could have easily sold 250. This year represents the first real release from the Bassetti Vineyard...and we think this one's even better! Named in tribute to my wife, it's Amie's favorite style of Syrah. Jet black in color, with notes of white pepper, violets and licorice that combine with great structure and acidity that bely this as a cool climate vineyard of great breeding."
